Tripura humiliate Bengal: Jharkhand crush Assam

Defending champions Bengal suffered a humiliating two-wicket defeat againstTripura on the opening day of the Vijay Hazare Trophy East Zone One-day Cricket Tournament at Ravenshaw University ground in Cuttack today. Three Bengal players made debut in the match. Seamer Rahul Shukla scalped five wickets to guide Jharkhand to an eight-wicket victory over Assam in another league match of the day at the Barabati Stadium. Assam’s Mumbai recruits failed to deliver goods as skipper Amol Muzumdar was dismissed for a duck and leg-spinner Sairaj Bahutula returned without a wicket. BRIEF SCORES: BENGAL: 162 all out in 41.3 overs (S Goswami 36, S Mondal 31: G Bhowmik 2/37) lost to TRIPURA: 165 fofr 8 in 48.2 overs (W Mota 34, K Aphale 29, R Dutta 25: A Dinda 2/45, LR Shukla 2/25, S Mondal 3/25). ASSAM: 117 all out in 30 overs (D Sharma 28 n.o, A Ahmed 32: R Shukla 5/29, V Aaron 3/39-3) lost to JHARKHAND: 120 for two in 23.4 overs (S Sinha 28, I Jaggi 29 no, S Tiwary 38 n.o: Dhiraj Goswami 2/23).
